The evaluation of the perceived and the projected public image of the police using the Semantic Differentiator scale
Keywords:
perceived image, projected image, police, semantic differentiaton, analysis of varianceAbstract
Starting with the idea that the employees of an organization / institution may be a highly relevant imagological component and an important pillar in supporting and promoting its image (Belasen, 2008) through their tinteraction with the outside world (Hatch & Schultz, 1997), in the current study we used to the Differential Semantic technique (Osgood, Suci, & Tannenbaum, 1957), which has proven extremely useful in studying the image of an organization (Bonner & George, 1988; Mesko, Umek & Musek, 1996; Rao, 2009) and aimed to evaluate the police by reference to its employees. We considered the police image both in terms of assessing the socio-professional status of the participants (general population, candidates for police forces and police officers) and the landing time (current / projected image), studying also the gap between them.
